The social safety net for older Americans has been shrinking for the past couple decades. The risks associated with aging, reduced income, and increased healthcare costs, have been off-loaded onto seniors. For an increasing number of older Americans, their golden years are fraught with economic risks, the result of which is often bankruptcy.
-HAIA identifies recommendations and actions to promote healthy aging and improve health and well-being later in life. The report highlights federal and nonfederal policies and programs that promote healthy aging to further the strategy for an aging society.

More than 3 million Americans rely on services provided by nursing homes at some point during the year; 1.4 million Americans reside in the Nation’s approximately 15,654 nursing homes on any given day.
