Family Advocacy Workshop
VOYCE offers a Family Advocacy Workshop to family members of individuals living in long-term care. This interactive workshop will equip family members with the tools to navigate a long-term care community while effectively advocating for their loved ones.
The goals of the workshop are to ensure that family members leave with an understanding of:
Being educated on ways to advocate can help improve relationships between family members and staff at long-term care communities, prevent issues from reaching the point of the Elder Abuse and Neglect Hotline, and reduce stress on family members and long-term care community staff.
The transition into a long-term care community can be extremely difficult. VOYCE can help this transition by providing families with information to help them understand the expectations of a long-term care community and learn to effectively advocate for their loved ones.
The Family Advocacy Workshop is 1-hour long and VOYCE requires attendance of at least 5 family members. The long-term care community is responsible for marketing this event to their families. Common ways that communities have done this in the past include: utilizing an already existing family council; mailing flyers with billing statements; having signs throughout the community; and word of mouth. VOYCE can provide flyers for family members.
If you are interested in hosting this event at a long-term care community or learning more, please contact our VOYCEconnect Coordinator.
