On July 14, Governor Parson signed HB 1387, the electronic monitoring bill. For TEN YEARS, VOYCE and other elder rights advocates have fought to get an electronic monitoring bill passed, and today that fight has been won! This is a highly positive step forward for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our loved ones and all those in long-term care facilities in Missouri.

Why is the electric monitoring bill important?

There are many reasons residents, family members, and facilities have elected to install an electronic monitoring device, including but not limited to:

  • Filling gaps in security and protection from abuse, theft, and neglect
  • Ensuring that the resident is receiving appropriate levels of care
  • Confirm or deny allegations of suspected abuse and neglect
  • Promote facility reputation and increase accountability

What’s Next?

Starting the last week of August, residents of long-term care communities will now be able to place cameras in their rooms. There will still be installation restrictions as a result of COVID-19 for the foreseeable future.
