Ombudsman Date to the Prom "More Than A Friendly Visitor"
VOYCE often refers to how our volunteer ombudsmen are "more than a friendly visitor," because a huge part of their work focuses on establishing rapport, building trust and gaining the confidence of the residents for whom they advocate.
As a VOYCE ombudsman, Roger recently took this "more than a friendly visitor" concept to a whole new level of trust and respect when he accepted an invitation from Estelle to accompany her to the Senior Prom at her long-term care community. Roger and Estelle enjoyed an evening of dressing up in prom attire with flowers and fun and dancing. That's right. Roger even took his date for a "twirl" on the dance floor.
The long-term care community hosted Senior Prom by transforming the dining room into a ballroom to the theme of "Old Hollywood" complete with balloting for a King and Queen following dinner. Roger has been visiting and advocating for Estelle for about eight years. He was delighted and honored when Estelle asked him to the Prom because she had no family who was able to attend.
